Why we should listen to generation Z.

In recent times, I've observed an unsettling trend among my friends who hold positions of power, an increasing concern for their safety, even in the context of private gatherings. This phenomenon speaks volumes about the current state of our society. It suggests that those in positions of authority feel alienated and unsafe amongst the very people they serve. This raises a crucial question, how do we engage our leaders in a meaningful discourse that bridges this growing divide?
The answer lies in finding the right platform to air these issues. Our leaders must be willing to listen, not just to each other, but to the voices of the younger generation, particularly Generation Z. This generation is demanding change, and their concerns are valid and urgent. It is our responsibility to support them, not by dictating terms, but by truly listening.
Generation Z has come of age in a world that is vastly different from the one we knew. They are more connected, more informed, and more vocal about the injustices they perceive. They are unafraid to speak out, and they demand to be heard. As the previous generation, we have a duty to acknowledge where we have fallen short and to make amends.
We cannot stop the tide of change that Generation Z is bringing. Instead, we must listen to them. This is the bottom line. We need to create spaces where their voices can be heard, unfiltered and unjudged. Town halls, social media platforms, community forums , these are the modern, day agoras where discourse can flourish.
Listening to Generation Z means engaging with them on their terms. It means understanding the issues they care about, climate change, social justice, economic equity, and mental health. These are not just their issues; they are our issues too. By listening to them, we can begin to find common ground and work towards solutions that benefit everyone.
We have failed in our conversation with Generation Z by not providing them with the support and understanding they need. It is time to rectify this. We must acknowledge their experiences, validate their concerns, and join them in their quest for a better world.
Generation Z's conversation is one of urgency and passion. They are not waiting for permission to speak; they are demanding to be heard. And we must listen. This is not just about handing over the reins; it's about working together to create a future where everyone feels safe and valued.
In conclusion as a generation X , the power we hold is transient. It is our responsibility to use it wisely and to ensure that the next generation is better equipped to face the challenges of tomorrow. By listening to Generation Z, we can learn from them and support them in their journey. Let us create the platforms they need, engage in meaningful dialogue, and work together to build a safer, more inclusive world.
