The Power of High School Reunions, A Journey Through the Lenana Class of 1991.

Reunions hold a special place in the hearts of many whether they are for family members, college mates, colleagues, or friends. Each reunion comes with its own unique charm, but none seems to compare to the nostalgia and bond that a high school reunion brings. There's something profoundly special about reconnecting with those you shared your transformative teenage years with years marked by growth, mischief, and self-discovery. For me, and many others, the high school reunion stands at the top of the list.

On October 10, 2024, the Lenana School Class of 1991 celebrated our third significant reunion, commemorating 33 years since we bid farewell to our beloved school. This was a milestone in our journey together, following our 25-year reunion in 2016 and our 30-year celebration in 2021. Though I was unable to attend this year's event due to personal commitments, I closely followed every moment through videos and photos shared by our ever-reliable photographers. And what I saw was nothing short of inspirational.

We had planned every detail to perfection—from the venue and financial contributions to the food and drinks. But what truly stood out was how we came together to support one of our own a testament to the enduring spirit of brotherhood that has stayed with us since our time at Lenana School. Each of us had the opportunity to share our personal journey our triumphs, struggles, and everything in between. These testimonies were both heartfelt and inspiring, painting a vivid picture of the diverse paths we've all walked since our teenage years.

I must give credit to Willy Mugambi, the mastermind behind our reunions and a fellow housemate from Moi House. His vision and leadership have kept us united over the years, ensuring that every reunion feels like a true homecoming. And while watching the clips of the 2024 reunion, I was struck by how familiar yet different we all are. In our 50s now, the passage of time has not diminished the bonds we formed over three decades ago. Yes, some of us have gained a few pounds (and might benefit from fitness lessons from those who’ve stayed in shape), but what matters most is that we’re still here healthy, happy, and full of life.

The reunion brought our mischievous teenage selves back to life, with memories of the naughty antics and carefree moments flooding back. For a moment, it was as if time stood still, and we were all back at Lenana School, sharing laughs, stories, and camaraderie as though no time had passed. We celebrated the passage of time, not with melancholy, but with pride in the lives we’ve built and the roads we’ve traveled.

High school reunions are more than just gatherings they are a celebration of shared history and a reflection of how far we’ve come. They offer us a chance to reconnect with our younger selves, to relive cherished memories, and to bond over our collective experiences. For the Class of 1991, our reunions have become a cherished tradition, and as we look ahead to future celebrations, we are reminded that no matter where life takes us, we will always be Lenana boys at heart.

For those who are yet to experience the magic of a high school reunion, I urge you to make it a priority. The chance to reconnect with old friends, to reflect on the shared journey, and to celebrate how far you’ve all come is something that cannot be replicated. Here’s to more reunions, more laughter, and more memories for the Class of 1991 and for all other cohorts out there.
We are still one.
